Firearm Owners Identification card request or renewal

A Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Card is required for Illinois residents to legally purchase, possess a firearm or ammunition. The Firearm Services Bureau determines the eligibility of applicants and FOID cards are issued by the Illinois State Police to qualified applicants. Applicants can begin the FOID card renewing process 60 days prior to its expiration date.
